That Time I Found a Dominatrix on Craigslist

I’ve had some thought-provoking experiences with Craigslist this past year. However, this recent experience was unique and delightful because I was not looking to sell more of my used undergarments and shoes to the men who my horrified mother refers to as, “those internet perverts”.

(… in that voice, no less.)

No, Mom, I really was job hunting — at first. Then, I came across an intriguing ad.

A dominatrix local to my area was seeking legal advice. Why, you ask? She wanted to know which of her services would not get her thrown in jail. A fair question, I thought.

So, I messaged her.

I introduced myself as a kink-friendly buttinsky who could provide absolutely no help to her inquiry but was just so darn curious about what kinds of responses she’d received that I couldn’t help my fingers from stealing a moment of her day via a feverishly excited email.

A kind and charitable soul, she indulged my curiosity by writing back a couple of hours later. Apparently, lots of helpful folks in the legal field licensed to offer their legal advice actually had offered legal advice, and to her delight, most of her services were perfectly legal.

The kicker? There was only one service which her legal counsel warned might land her in hot water.

Apparently, piercing needles through a man’s testicles is considered “practicing medicine”.

Who knew?

    1. Yes indeedie. I am (mostly) thankful that the law is largely uninvolved with many of the ins and outs of the kinky community. I say mostly because the problem, then, is that when crimes are committed, victims are essentially unable to go to the police. As with other ostracized social groups, the police either do not involve themselves, or they arrest everybody, including the victims. Clearly, we continue to need a greater social understanding of a variety of forms of healthy sexual expression.
